Easter for beginners

Easter has always been a favorite holiday in my family- especially for my mom. It was always about the important things - family, food and MOST importantly CHRIST. I really struggled this year with how to teach Avery about the real meaning of Easter. I am great with the Easter bunny and the eggs and the "fun" stuff- I mean she is 2 after all -but I want to make sure that that part of the holiday NEVER overshadows what Christ did for us. But how do you teach that to a 2 year old? I mean its hard to understand WHAT HE did for us and WHY HE did it, even as an adult! So, how do you teach it to a 2 year old and make it not scary but truly amazing? So I have to confess that this year we did more about the Easter bunny and just not enough about our Savior. Any suggestions for future Easters?? All that being said we did have a nice Easter. We made it back to church for the first time since Anna's arrival and it was GOOD to be back. It was hard to get out the door- much to Brett's dismay- I had to have the girls in their matching dresses AND have pictures before we left, but we made it on time!!! Then we went to Larry and Becky's for lunch and some of the family from Perry joined us as well!

Avery comes down the stairs and is READY to get started with the hunt!

She found ALL of them..with a little help.

Then it was on to her basket at the table. She found a kaleidoscope...and she wasn't sure about it.

As always the Easter bunny remembered chap stick and she WAS sure about that.
After getting through her basket it was time to open each and every egg and make sure that no piece of candy was left behind.
A quick shot of "Brett's girls" before we headed to church.
A first attempt at a family photo since Anna arrived. Not the best picture- especially of mom- but we tried.

You all are so cute in your coordinating outfits! Brett is a lucky guy to have his three girls :)

Sweet pics, congrats on little Anna, she is beautiful. For Easter this year we did a fun activity to teach the girls about Christ. We rolled marshmallows (Jesus' body) in crescent roll dough (the cloths) and then put them in the tomb (the oven) after they cooked the girls opened them and saw that Jesus was gone. It was a good illustration...you can search for the exact directions (with verses to read) online.

So cute to see your matching girls. They truly are precious. I totally understand your struggle, how do you make something so deep and amazing compatible for a youngster's understanding. My friend who has a 4 and 1 year old took tissue paper and made a stained glass look in the shape of a cross on their back door and explained the story of the cross. She also found some sort of resurrection Easter eggs that helps share the Easter story. You can click the link to her blog and read more about it (M. Greiner is her name).
